Marion Cotillard and Penélope Cruz together with ‘Nine‘ co-star Daniel Day-Lewis attended the premiere screening of ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee‘ (directed by Rebecca Miller, Daniel’s wife) yesterday. Marion straightened her hair similar to her look at the 4th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards and I love her dress. The two of them looked absolutely stunning. Judge for yourself by looking at the first batch of pictures from the event:

Last Saturday, Marion Cotillard together with Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench attended the press conference for ‘Nine‘ at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. I’ve added some pictures to the gallery.
The wife’s 11 o’clock number, “Be on Your Own,” sung as she hits the exit for good. The closing lines of it — “You’ll take with you all you own / From A to Z / . . . And all of me” — inspired, at Marshall’s suggestion, a new number: “Take It All.”
“‘Be On Your Own’ is a song that made me very proud when I wrote it the first time,” Yeston admitted. “It always had a wonderful and scathing effect on stage, but, as I have said, you need action in a film. Film is far more literal and far more specific than a stage show. No matter how detailed the set of a stage show is, it could never be as detailed as actually being in an actual place in a movie. You see the details of every room, you see the props, you see the lights. You are meant to accept this as literally the real world, whereas in theatre we give you a white tile set or a unit set in the abstract and we ask you to use your imagination. Because film is more literal, you really do have to go farther out on a limb to become theatrical.”
Yet another Oscar winner, Anthony Minghella (“The English Patient”), weighed in on that number. He did the final polish on Michael Tolkin’s screenplay, finishing it just days before his death, and it was his suggestion that the number be shared with Kidman and Cruz. “Three women are leaving Guido at the same time, but only one of them devoted her life to him. Only one of them has been married to him for 20 years. Only one of them is giving up everything in her body and soul. Once we explored it, it did not make any sense for three women to share and participate in the depth of despair and anger that only one of them had really earned. So we restored it to a solo.
“I saw Marion Cotillard’s movie three times, and ‘Take It All’ is as much inspired by Marion Cotillard as ‘Folies Bergeres’ was inspired by Liliane Montevecchi. I think that’s, sometimes, when you do your best work because you realize ‘Nothing that I write makes any sense if I don’t have a brilliant actor to put it across the footlights to the audience.’ Here, I knew I was writing for the specific gifts of a brilliant actress.
Finally, pictures from Tuesday’s silent gathering in support of Aung San Suu Kyi have been added to the gallery. There are a few HQ pictures as well as many regular sized ones. Enjoy!
Listen to a short interview (in French) with Marion from the event on RTL.fr.
I’ve been supporting this woman for 14 years now. I was really touched when I discovered her life and what she had to go through. She’s a wonder to me, her purity, she’s someone who’s not afraid. She’s accepted to not being able to see her husband, her children, for the sake of her people. That’s something extraordinary! Information we have about her, her health condition, her…, are frightening. And if these military people, who are deaf and blind, people who are beyond sense and law… if there’s a moment to help reverse this, I believe in it. I believe that bringing as many people as possible in this country up to date on who this woman is and what is going on in that country is not in vain. It’s a start to get her out of prison.

As previously announced Marion Cotillard attended a screening of ‘Public Enemies‘ in Lyon on July 3, 2009. Bakasphere.com kindly gave me permission to post his pictures from the event. [edit:] Actually, these (and 2 new) pictures were taken at the Hôtel de Ville, where Marion participated in the radio show ‘La tête dans les étoiles‘ for RTL just before the actual screening.[/edit]. ToxicGirls.org added a video of the 5-min interview with Marion, which took place before the screening, to DailyMotion. Find screencaptures & the clip in the media sections.
Note that some guy went up to the stage to ask for an autograph. Marion graciously signed for him but the interviewer made clear that this was to be an exception and that everyone else please remain seated. LOL
001 Other Public Appearances – 2009 Public Enemies Lyon Premiere
After the international promotional tour for ‘Public Enemies‘ but before somewhat disappearing from the limelight to prepare for her upcoming role in Guillaume Canet’s Les Petits Mouchoirs and to take a much deserved vacation (in St. Tropez) Marion Cotillard as the face of Lady Dior attended the Dior Haute Couture Autumn/Winter show during the Paris Fashion Week on July 6. She was pictured with President and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture Sidney Toledano, John Galliano, Clotilde Courau and Nora Arnazeder.
“I loved the outside underwear and the black and flesh colors together,” said the petite actress Marion Cotillard, who was perched on Dior platform shoes so high she was on a level with Mr. Arnault. (source)
On a hot summer day earlier this month (July 2) Marion Cotillard attended the ‘Public Enemies’ Press Conference in the Hotel George-V in Paris. Later she joined Johnny Depp and Michael Mann on the red carpet for the big premiere. She signed many pictures, wore impressive Galliano red sequin shoes and was accompanied by her mother Niseema Theillaud.
The European ‘Public Enemies‘ Premiere took place earlier today in London. Stephen Graham joined Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and Michael Mann. Marion looked lovely in a red Vivienne Westwood dress – which unfortunately seems to have ripped after signing autographs and walking the red carpet.
Last week, ‘Public Enemies‘ had its “official” world premiere during the Los Angeles Film Festival. Marion Cotillard together with Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Michael Mann – along with many of the other stars of the movie – attended the premiere. Finally, I’ve added the pictures. Enjoy!
