New Project: ‘Mal de Pierres’

New Project: ‘Mal de Pierres’

Variety just reported that Marion Cotillard has a new project:

Marion Cotillard is set to topline “Mal de Pierres,” a period romance drama directed by critically-acclaimed auteur Nicole Garcia and produced by Alain Attal’s Les Productions du Tresor, one of France’s top independent film companies.

An adaptation of Milena Agus’ eponymous novel, “Mal de Pierres” (“Mal di pietre”) spans 20 years, following the destiny of a passionate, free-spirited woman who is in a loveless marriage and falls for another man.

A bestseller, the book has been translated in more than 15 languages.

Cotillard will play the leading role, Garcia co-wrote the script with her regular co-scribe, Jacques Fieschi.

“It’s a passion project for both Nicole and us,” Attal told Variety.” It’s a very romantic and intense story about a woman whose quest for absolute love is the essence of life, her ‘raison d’etre.’” Attal added that Cotillard was taken by the script, the strong character it portrays and is highly committed to the project.

“Pierre” will start shooting in Spring 2015.

After Marion Cotillard dropped out of Benoit Jacquot’s ‘Diary of a Chambermaid‘ because she wanted to focus solely on ‘Macbeth‘ without worrying about portraying another character afterwards, I’m very excited that she’s taken on a new Project. Also, it’s a promising role and she’ll be working with a female director – just seems we’ll have to wait a long time to see it happen.

Title & Synopsis for Dardennes film

Screendaily posted on Monday that the upcoming movie by the Dardenne brothers starring Marion Cotillard and Fabrizio Rongione is titled ‘Deux jours, une nuit‘ or ‘Two Days, One Night‘ in English. And here’s the plot synopsis:

Cotillard will play Sandra, who “helped by her husband, has only a weekend to track down her colleagues and convince them to renounce their bonuses so she can keep her job”.

New Project: Asghar Farhadi Movie

Yesterday, Le Figaro mentioned in their Cannes article that Marion Cotillard will be filming the new movie by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi in Paris in the fall. What do we know about it?

Back in January The Daily Beast reported:

Farhadi is currently working on a screenplay with acclaimed writer Yazmina Reza, who penned the play God of Carnage, that he hopes to shoot in France soon; he has approached Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) and Marion Cotillard for leads.

Various casting sites posted an ad on Saturday looking for 2 girls (10 and 14 years old) to play the daughters of Marion’s character.

Payvand Iran News reported:

The acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi will shoot a French-language film in Paris next fall. The news was announced by Memento Films’ Alexandre Mallet-Guy, who told the press that further details about the film will be released at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Mallet-Guy did say, however, that the film is not the previously announced love story between an Iranian girl and a North African boy set in Paris.

And finally, director Asghar Farhadi will be awarded first EU MEDIA prize on Sunday, May 20, during the Cannes Film Festival for this mystery project. Hopefully, this is when we’ll get more information.

“I am proud to give this award to Mr Farhadi today for this film project which has a strong cultural identity and illustrates the openness of European culture, which I defend daily. After the worldwide success of his masterpiece “A Separation”, he gives us a project which is committed and moving in equal measure and above all draws on universality” said Ms Vassiliou.

Asghar Farhadi said, “In these times when certain politicians are trying to turn the beautiful rainbow of cultural diversity in the world into differences and confrontations, I believe that this MEDIA award for my next film project is a very encouraging sign. I would therefore like to warmly thank the MEDIA programme, and commend it for its lucid and open vision of mutual and respectful exchanges between cultures.”
