‘Rust and Bone’ Started Filming Yesterday

NiceMatin.com reports that filming for Jacques Audiard’s new movie ‘Un goût de rouille et d’os‘ (Rust and Bone) starring Marion Cotillard started yesterday in Antibes. Marion herself wasn’t on the set but she arrived on the Côte d’Azur on Monday and spent Tuesday afternoon at the Antibes Marineland in rehearsals to be able to portray an orca trainer. She will return in November to film her scenes.

AlloCiné also has an official synopsis and it shows how some of the short stories of Craig Davidson‘s book have been converted into one storyline for the movie:

Ali is actually called Alain. Alain van Versch. He is 25 years old and lives in the North. He has no money and has never had any. When you’re young and alone, money is not a problem. It becomes one when the girl with whom you have had a child places it in your hands. Now, obviously, Ali has a problem: his name is Sam, and he’s five years old.

Running on and running out of ideas Ali calls his sister who lives in Antibes in the south. This is where the father and the child who don’t know each other will find shelter for the winter, in the basement of a house.

Ali agrees with the song: misery is less painful in the sun. He does odd jobs: night watchman, bouncer … And it is in a nightclub, le Fever, that he meets Stéphanie. She is 28 years old, she is blonde, she’s beautiful. It is a princess with an incredible occupation: orca trainer at the Aquatic Park in Antibes.

Ali accompanies her home and leaves her his number, but nothing is possible between them. A princess does not go out with a guy like Ali.

It takes the orca presentation show to turn into drama and Stéphanie to lose both her legs before a phone call in the middle of the night connects them again.

When Ali finds Stéphanie, packed in a wheelchair, alone in her new special needs apartment, he understands what a princess is who has lost her legs. A Princess fallen from above.

Between them will grow a relationship that is special, carnal and codified. And when Ali participates in illegal fights to save her life, she will become his manager.

Remember the filming for ‘Contagion‘ that took place on January 14 in Geneva? John was there and has more information on the scenes that were being filmed. Thank you for sharing this with us!

There were two scenes: (1) Marion walking from the bus stop into the building and (2) Marion entering the building, showing her ID and walking to the elevator bank. Both scenes were very short (15 – 20 seconds) and there was no dialogue.

Maya Lucchitta managed to take some lovely shots of Marion Cotillard on the set. Many thanks for your permission to put them in our gallery. Please visit her blog to read her full report about the filming.

Since yesterday’s filming of the few exterior scenes at WHO in Geneva for ‘Contagion‘ has wrapped details about the shoot have surfaced. Veronica Riemer, of the World Health Organization’s communications department, said that about 80 people, actors, technicians and extras were at WHO from 5 am to 10.30 am. And contrary to some reports Marion Cotillard was the only star involved in the filming. Veronica Riemer added “She left for the airport immediately after the shoot. Everything went very well.”

Seeing as Marion’s character Dr. Leonora Orantes also has a scene at the Geneva airport they might have filmed this on location as well yesterday – like they did with her scene at the Hong Kong airport.

Janet managed to get a quick shot of Marion which she published on her blog. Many thanks for giving me permission to include it in our gallery!

New pictures of Marion Cotillard and Owen Wilson on the set of ‘Midnight in Paris from Wednesday night (August 4) have surfaced. Apparently, that was Marion’s last day of filming, as the last 2 pictures show where she’s holding flowers and wiping away tears.

Additionally, I’ve added more pictures from July 7 & 30. This means we now have 299 photos of Marion on the set of the Woody Allen pic. The filenames indicate which day the photographs are from.

Filming ‘Midnight in Paris’ on Monday

I added a few more pictures of Marion Cotillard on the set of the Woody Allen movie ‘Midnight in Paris‘ – mostly taken last Monday, July 26, but also 3 additional ones from July 5.

Woody Allen’s period movie just went into flashback mode. The director took over famed Paris eaterie Maxim’s on Monday night to shoot scenes for “Midnight in Paris” with Marion Cotillard and Owen Wilson.

Images taken on the set of the movie so far indicate the action is set in the Twenties, but the scenes filmed at Maxim’s, owned by Pierre Cardin, take place in the late 19th century, in what an insider described as a flashback within the film.

Cotillard donned a yellow dress for the ball scene, which featured some 40 extras, including musicians. Filming stretched into the wee hours, with exterior scenes featuring a coach and horses.

Marion kind of talks ‘Inception’

Empire Magazine, who picked up the news about Inception‘s IMAX release, spoke to Marion Cotillard in order to get more information about ‘Inception‘ this week. Of course the film is still as much of a secret as before but at least we know more about Marion’s filming schedule:

“I’ve only had one day [filming] in Paris. I’m doing a movie right now with Guillaume Canet, and when I’ve finished that I’m going to go to LA for the shoot. Can I tell you anything about Lisa? Um… noooo!”

While she’s busy filming ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ in Cap Ferret both the ‘Beds are burning‘ Launch and the Dior Fashion Show in Paris had to do without her presence.

New picture from the set of ‘Les petits mouchoirs’

Thanks to our forum member Nadine I’ve been able to add a new picture of Marion Cotillard on the set of ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ to the gallery. It’s actually from a French article from SudOuest.com.

The article mostly talks about how Cap Ferret is one of writer/director Guillaume Canet’s most favourite places, he loves the sunsets, the “cabane d’Édouard” in the evening after having eaten seafood – and everything else that makes him respect the region and its people. To help preserve the region, so that it doesn’t become the next St. Tropez, it will not be mentioned by name in the movie even though the majority of it is set there. There’s also talk about the dream cast. And a brief mention of Marion:

On the day of the filming of a “surprise” scene in a pretty villa there’s Marion Cotillard pirouetting in a casual dress, guitar in hand, waiting for the green light from her boyfriend/director.

“I was very lucky because they loved the script,” explains Guillaume Canet. “Most of them knew me. Marion also loved my film and the story. I think they’re all here out of respect for my work.”

It goes on to say that for the filming the actors renounced a certain comfort they’re used to – such as nearby lodgings. The mayor of Lège-Cap-Ferret didn’t want the place to be crowded with trucks from the film crew. Filming is set to continue until October 8.
