‘Public Enemies’ Poster & Trailers & Cannes

MSN debuted the first ‘Public Enemies‘ poster today, as well as some new stills. But none feature a new Marion still. Still, very exciting! Especially to see that out of the all star cast it’s Marion and Christian Bale who, in addition to Johnny Depp of course, get to have their names on the poster – it seems the two have equal billing positions. And it’s certainly nice to read Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard on a poster!

Also word is out that ET will debut some exclusive footage as well as a preview of the trailer tonight! Watch the preview for the preview and don’t forget to tune in to spot Marion as Johnny Depp’s Dillinger’s girlfriend Billie.

The actual trailer should be online either tomorrow or Thursday and it can be admired on the big screen as of Friday. Don’t know which movies will show the ‘Public Enemies‘ trailer, though, sorry.

Also, it was reported last Friday by highly reliable Daily Mail correspondant Baz Bamigboye that ‘Public Enemies‘ might be chosen for the Cannes Festival movie line-up:

Cannes Film Festival selectors are due to look at a rough cut of Public Enemies, the movie about 1930s Public Enemy No1 John Dillinger. A delegation of Cannes Film Festival officials will travel to Los Angeles soon to view footage.

The picture, directed by Michael Mann, also stars Christian Bale, Channing Tatum and Carey Mulligan. It’s not certain yet whether it would have an opening night slot or a special premiere during the festival in May.

One factor that has to be sorted is whether or not Depp has the time (or the inclination) to attend Cannes. He’s busy doing additional filming on Alice In Wonderland and has two other projects to film back to back.

Also, Depp and Mann clashed on the set – but they’re both professionals and are most likely over it now.

Festival organisers are already holding talks with Pedro Almodovar about his noir movie Broken Embraces, which stars the best supporting actress Oscar winner Penelope Cruz.

Terminator Salvation, which stars Bale, is set to close the festival.

I finished capping all the Oscar related videos with Marion and added the caps to the gallery. Videos will come soon! As I’ve said before, Marion Cotillard was seated right behind Amy Adams who in turn was sitting next to Meryl Streep. This should help you locate Marion on the audience caps.

During the credits of the show small previews of upcoming movies were shown – among them: Public Enemies. I’ve added the Marion caps to the gallery as well.

Picture update & Césars tomorrow

I added a total of 94 regular quality pictures to almost all of 2009′s event albums.

Also I would like to remind everyone that tomorrow the 34th César Ceremony is taking place in Paris. As last year’s winner of the Best Actress césar it is very likely that Marion will be attending and/or presenting. Canal+ is airing the show as of 8.50pm MET. And apparently as of 9pm MET we will all be able to watch it live on CanalPlus.Fr..

I am not sure whether I will be able to record anything as my computer is acting weird lately whenever I’m dealing with media files. Could anyone watch out for Marion on the red carpet and during the ceremony and provide clips for this site? Thank you very much.

[edit Feb 27:] I couldn’t get that direct link to play but from what I’ve been able to gather on the live blog Marion Cotillard was absent from tonight’s Césars Ceremony despite having reportedly returned to France earlier this week (thanks Gemma for the link). I’m sure she’s taking a well deserved break before filming for her first leading role since La Vie en Rose starts in little over a week from now: Aviator Chubbie Miller searching for her fiancé in the much awaited Sahara-set adventure-romantic drama “Le Dernier vol de Lancaster” by Karim Dridi opposite Guillaume Canet. Filming starts March 9 and will mostly take place in the Moroccan desert.

‘Nine’ moved ahead

Cinematic Happenings Under Development has a report on how the producers of ‘Nine‘ are hopeful the film will be part of next year’s awards season. To increase the film’s chances they set a new release date for Rob Marshall’s musical: November 25, 2009.

Michael Tolkin wrote the original script draft but, in final Oscar-bait form, it was rewritten by the late Anthony Minghella shortly before his death.

Now the film has moved up to November 25 from December 11; that’s a big Thanksgiving weekend thumbs-up from The Weinstein Company. And why not? The last time Marshall unleashed a musical (Chicago) it took home many dollars and awards for Harvey & Co.

“Public Enemies” – Test Screening Reviews

Marion Cotillard’s upcoming movie, the Michael Mann directed “Public Enemies” starring Johnny Depp, was test screened last Thursday (Feb 12) in Sherman Oaks, CA. It was a blind screening, which means that they didn’t give the name of the film when soliciting for moviegoers. /Film compiled some reviews that subsequently appeared online. Here the Marion related parts:

Marion Cotillard was excellent as well. She and Depp had believable chemistry but I couldn’t tell what her accent was supposed to be. Some words didn’t have any accents at all while others sounded like her normal speaking voice. I will have to say that by the she surprised me very much. She has the final scene in the movie and it ended well. (I will say that she surprised me even more because I thought she wasn’t *THAT GREAT* in La Vie En Rose–Nom? Yes. Oscar win for that movie? No.)

Loved the paring of him with Cotilliard–she was excellent too and a nice complement to Johnny’s Dillinger. I thought the acting all around excellent!

And he does dance one dance with Billie. But he starts off telling her, “I don’t know how to dance”. … Now that we’re onto Billie, Marion Cotilliard really grew on me. They were good together. I loved the scene where JD went after Billie at her job. Watch for that one! And the love scene was good. But typical Johnny, in clothes. But for most of it we only saw him from the shoulders and up.

Everyone seemed to like the love story, but they wanted a little more character development with Billie. They really liked the scene at the coat check counter a lot and how Dillinger just completely charmed Billie into going back to the hotel with him. (And yeah, I think we ALL would’ve gone with him – he was that charming!) And he gave her a gift – which Billie probably felt she didn’t deserve, but it was symbolic of how he wanted to protect her. And when they capture her, she protects him. Really nice theme going throughout. I have to say that the scene when they do capture Billie and take her away is just gutwrenching. To watch Johnny’s face go through all the emotions he’s feeling is just incredible.

Marion Cotillard. What can I say other that she’s beautiful and talented. There is definitely some chemistry between her and Depp which made their brief love affair believable.

I finally found the time to scan the Marion Cotillard interview featured in the first ever issue of French movie magazine “Studio Ciné Live”. So sorry for the delay in getting them up. Translation to follow.

The article also had a second Public Enemies still. If anyone has a better quality version of the first still (also newly added to the gallery) please don’t hesitate to send it in as it would be greatly appreciated!

Fantastic updates

The first ever issue of Studio Ciné Live (combination of former French movie magazines Studio and Ciné Live), on newsstands January 28, will feature a special interview with Marion Cotillard. Last week French gossip website Purepeople.com released an extract (Scans & full translation will follow as soon as I’m able to pick up the magazine). From that we get 2 fantastic news:

1) Marion is all set to appear on stage! She’ll appear in Arthur Honegger’s play Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris this July! She last played that role in May 2005, back then however in Orléans.

2) Marion’s much awaited first French film (though maybe in the English language) after her Oscar win The Last Flight by Karim Dridi, in which she plays female aviator Chubbie Miller next to Guillaume Canet’s Bill Lancaster, is still happening. Filming is set to begin March 9 in the Moroccan desert.

Sorry for the lack of updates but real life certainly is keeping me busy. I can’t actually promise I’ll be around more often over the coming weeks but I will try to update on all the recent Marion news today and in the coming days.

First up, new pictures of Marion in connection with her involvement with Greenpeace, the original HQ still of her upcoming musical “Nine“, 7 additional HQ pictures during the Christmas Lights Switch-on and a new picture at the Dior event in China (Marion poses with John Galliano and Charlize Theron) courtesy of L’express. Enjoy!

Early review of “Public Enemies”

Ain’t It Cool News have a very early review up – it’s tentatively optimistic. Since the reviewer didn’t get to see the final product yet he advises: “it’s probably just better to wait until next summer and not know anything about it when you go in.” So read at your own peril. Here the Marion related part:

The best part is the love story between Dillinger and actress Marion Cotillard from La Vie en Rose, who plays a bright girl leading a fairly simple life who Dillinger falls in love with (rather quickly – but it’s humorous and it works). Their relationship is well developed and the most effective storyline, interleaved well in to the movie as to not take away from the action for too long… which is important because that is what michael mann does best and there’s plenty of it in this movie.

Thanks patel for the heads up!
