Tonight Marion Cotillard, Guillaume Canet as well as François Cluzet, Gilles Lellouche, Benoît Magimel and Laurent Laffitte – practically the whole Les petits mouchoirs gang – will all be present on TF1 as of 20.45 h on Enfants de la téle. Don’t forget to tune in if you live where you can watch TF1! Here’s the trailer:

Marion Cotillard’s great on the show and I just loved the old clips they showed of her. Some of when she was 8 and appeared in 2 television movies by a friend of her parents and one when she was 16 and took part in the educational ad “Tu t’es vus quand t’as bu?”. They also showed a scene from Extrême Limite which put her at unease but personally, I think she had nothing to worry about from that. Though I understand that when it’s about one’s own past one cannot be as objective.

‘Little White Lies’ World Premiere

After many ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ (Little White Lies) advance screenings in France – even one that was kept rather quiet in Paris but which Marion & Guillaume attended – the official world premiere took place earlier this afternoon during the Toronto International Film Festival. Marion Cotillard looked effortlessly chic in a somewhat new look. Together with director Guillaume Canet and co-star Gilles Lellouche I’d say a very handsome & charming trio represented the movie in Canada.

After some technical difficulties to screen the movie with subtitles there were two screenings at another venue to make up for the annoyance. The first English reviews are out by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety – though especially the latter is spoilery and not only positive.

And the ever-lovely, always genuine Cotillard.
- The Hollywood Reporter

Cotillard offers a strong presence, though Marie’s character feels too diffuse.

‘Les petits mouchoirs’ – The Verdict

I still can’t quite believe I managed to see ‘Les petits mouchoirs the other night. I’ve since had a day to think about it and here are my thoughts. I’m not going to spill any more plot details than the official synopsis revealed as I feel watching ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ is a real experience, in the end you’ll feel as if you are a part of the gang yourself and as if you went through everything yourself. This because the movie has a perfect flow and all of the performances feel real, there’s no false note. Even though I didn’t understand everything I laughed a lot, sometimes just because of how comical the situations were but mostly because of the hilarious dialogue. Make no mistake though, it’s a rollercoaster for your emotions!

Marion as independent Marie is fabulous, she got to play the most interesting and engaging female character in the movie. While all characters are well developed the movie does focus more about the friendship between the men. Additionally to Marion, also Gilles Lellouche, François Cluzet and Benoît Magimel are definite standouts in my opinion. Do look out for interesting cameo appearances by Matthieu Chedid (aka M), Maxim Nucci (aka Yodélice), Jean-Claude Cotillard and Niseema Theillaud. But most of all, if you get a chance to watch ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ (Little White Lies) do not hesitate to buy a ticket! It’s easily made my personal list of my 5 most favourite Marion movies & performances!

Guillaume Canet released the 4th Making of Video on Facebook which sheds more light on 4 characters including Marie:

I was very very touched by Marie’s character. There was a sense of understanding and I had already the wish to work on a character that could be similar to me even if not entirely like me.
- Marion Cotillard (free translation by myself)

In time for the world premiere on Saturday, the final poster for ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ was released, credit to Jean-Claude Lother, Les Productions Du Tresor, EuropaCorp, Caneo Films and M6 Films. Isn’t it perfect?!

I also scanned the ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ article in last October’s Studio Ciné Live – the on set pictures from which are no longer new – as well as this month’s Premiere which focuses mainly on Guillaume Canet, but he talks about working with Marion in the interview and there are new pictures of her taken during filming. Enjoy!

‘Les Petits Mouchoirs’ Promotion is Picking Up

To promote the release of ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ in France Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard will appear during Michel Drucker’s talk show Vivement Dimance on October 10, 2010. Thanks Louise & Gina for the heads up!

There will be an advance screening of ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ at the Cinema Gaumont Pathé in Orléans on September 15. Guillaume Canet will be there as well as some of the cast. Seeing as this is Marion’s hometown, I’m guessing she’ll be there.

The 25th edition of FIFF (Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, Belgium) is currently in negotiations to feature ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ in their lineup when the festival takes place October 1-8, 2010. Additionally, they are waiting for confirmation of Guillaume Canet’s attendance and will try to get the rest of the cast, speak Marion Cotillard. Stay tuned! Source: Sud Presse, thanks Nadine for the heads up!

I also added more pictures to the ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ (Little White Lies) gallery. I will be attending the Mulhouse advance screening tomorrow evening and post my thoughts as well as some film-related scans soon afterwards.

‘Extrême Limite’ Screencaptures

Back in 1994, an 18 to 19 year old Marion Cotillard was part of the French TF1 series ‘Extrême Limite‘ where she played Sophie Colbert, the daughter of the director of an elite sports academy at the Côte d’Azur. To my knowledge she appeared in episodes #10 and #41 of the first season. Please let me know if she appeared in any additional episodes.

There’s some confusion with the DVD releases as they’re splitting episodes from the first season into different box sets as well as labelling some of them ‘Season 2′. Marion’s episodes can be watched on the following DVD Box Sets: Saison 1, partie 1 and Saison 2, partie 1. Added screencaptures of Marion’s 2nd episode today.

Marion Cotillard in Short Movies

I added more screencaptures of Marion Cotillard in short movies. These are mostly very hard to find so if you come across any more (teasers, excerpts of full versions) please let us know! Here are the links to watch the ones I added screencaptures of today:

- Snuff Movie full version
- Quelques jours de trop excerpts
- Heureuse full version
- Forehead Tittaes full version, incl. full transcript

Regarding the recent spoof advert ‘Forehead Tittaes‘ by Funny or die.com which was released this March: Nadine recently directed my attention to a recent German ‘Inception‘ interview with Welt am Sonntag. To my knowledge this is the first time Marion was asked about it so here’s the translation:

Welt am Sonntag: When typing your name in Google a quite funny short film called “Forehead Tittaes” shows up – the clip deals with how men always stare only at women’s boobs. What made you do this?
Cotillard:
That’s the great thing about the possibilities America can offer an actress. Thanks to “La Môme” I’m now somewhat privileged. In this case it was that I played quite a number of, let’s say, “suffering” roles back-to-back – “La Mome”, “Public Enemies”, “Nine” and “Inception”. But actually, I’m a huge fan of American comedians – Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn or Steve Carell. “Step Brothers” is one of my favourite movies. So I was talking with my agent about what I wanted to do next and said ‘I’m a bit fed up with always playing the sufferer and to always have to put myself in this state of despair’. It even happened that I sat there during shooting and thought ‘Here we go again, same old story, I’ll be completely desperate for the whole day’.

Welt am Sonntag: So you said ‘There’s an end of it, I’ll do something funny now’?
Cotillard:
My publicist suggested meeting the guys of “Funny or die”: I knew them because I love Will Ferrell but I thought: You can hardly just go there and say ‘Bonjour, I’m a French actress and would like to work with you’. But my agent said: Yes, that’s exactly how it works. So two days later I was sitting in a conference room with 20 people writing sketches for me. That was really an absolute dream. Writers I adore telling me totally screwy, absurd stories. Then Will Ferrell came and we shook hands. I immediately hugged him. That’s how “Forehead Tittaes” came to be. It was brilliant. For me comedy is really hard work because it’s something I have little experience in.

Yo, Dona Scans

Thanks to Flor we have scans of Marion’s cover & interview from Spanish magazine Yo, Dona. The lovely photo shoot was actually realized for Chopard’s 150th anniversary. It’s an original interview, and here’s Flor’s summary for those of us who don’t speak Spanish:

It’s a very cute interview, actually. We learn that Marion studied Spanish for 5 years and that she was one of the best of her class but then she forgot it (while filming Nine, she tried to talk to Penelope Cruz in Spanish but she couldn’t join the sentences). She hopes she can study it again sometime. They ask her about Guillaume (as always) and she dodges the question very gracefully (as always). And then it’s more about the stuff we know: filming with Leo, La Vie en Rose changed her life, Dior, etc.

P.S. Some people mentioned that the pictures in the gallery seem to be of a smaller size than before. This is NOT the case. The new version of the gallery script resizes full-sized pictures to your screen resolution. If you right click on the photo and view properties, you will see that it says something like: 1,365px × 1,800px (scaled to 506px × 668px). This is done to allow a person with a slower connection or smaller monitor to see the full image instead of having to scroll. If the image is saved, it will save in its full original size.
