Marion Cotillard already mentioned Pierre Rabhi in her interview about ecology with Elle last year – last Tuesday, she now attended a press conference in Paris where the Fondation Pierre Rabhi was presented. There was already a tweet about it but it wasn’t until today when L’Express published a picture and an interview with Pierre Rabhi that we know more about it. Listen to the full press conference here.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Fondation Pierre Rabhi was created this year to support Acro-Ecology projects for sustainable food self-sufficiency worldwide and to get involved in safety, food safety and autonomy of people. There are 7 members Jean-Paul Capitani, Maurice Freund, Charles Kobloukoff, François Lemarchand, la Princesse de Polignac, Jacques Rocher and Michel Valentin. Farmer, philosopher and writer Pierre Rabhi is its honorary president. The foundation coordinates, among other things, a group of agro-ecologists without borders who then mobilize people with specific skills for the projects around the world, including Burkina Faso, Morocco, Mali and Europe.

4.7 Million People Saw ‘Les petits mouchoirs’

Last Tuesday evening ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ became officially the most successful French movie in France of the year – dethroning Camping 2. According to today’s Le Figaro 4.7 million people have now seen it! This is only one month after its release and despite somewhat mixed reviews and a length of 2h40 minutes. The newspaper says that the movie has become a social phenomenon and have a psychoanalyst / philosopher try explain its success. There’s also a new interview with writer/director Guillaume Canet where he says he’s surprised by the huge success.

Interestingly, when it comes to all movie releases in France ‘Inception‘ (also with Marion Cotillard) is currently holding the record with over 4.9 million entries – but it looks like ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ will beat it soon. Its distributor Europa Corp expects that 5.5 million people will have seen it by the end of the year. The only other movie to maybe become the most successful movie in France of 2010 is Harry Potter which opens this week. But in any case it’s definitely the most successful French movie of 2010! Congratulations!

As regards international release dates there are no details yet but they’re previewing it in The Netherlands – thanks Nadine.

Vivement Dimanche

Last month, on October 10, 2010, the French Sunday TV Show Vivement Dimanche had Guillaume Canet as guest of honour. He got to invite people to join him and of course Marion Cotillard was one of those he invited. First she joined Yodelice as a regular band member to play the drums for the song ‘More than meets the eye’. Later she performed the duet ‘Five Thousand Nights’ together with Maxim Nucci before the two joined Guillaume on the couch to be interviewed. Marion Cotillard talked of her and her family’s love of music, how she chose the name of her character in the Yodelice universe after her maternal grandmother Simone. They also talked about her other grandmother and Marion’s character in Les petits mouchoirs. Later, these 3 were joined by almost the complete cast of Les petits mouchoirs.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find an actual recording of the first song as well as of the last part of the show. If you have one could you please let us use it for the site? Thank you.

I’m very sorry for the delay but I finally have an update about Les enfants de la télé for you. Marion Cotillard & Guillaume Canet together with the majority of the ‘Les petits mouchoirs‘ cast appeared on the French TV show where they show old, rare and funny clips of the guests on September 25, 2010. A HUGE thank you to Melfan for her tremendous help with this – without her this post wouldn’t have been possible!

They showed the following Marion-related clips: 2008 Award montage, 16 year old Marion in a campaign against drinking (Tu t’es vu quand t’as bu), 7 and 8 year old Marion in TV movies by Claude Cailloux (La monde des tout petits & Lucie), Dance routine ‘Take it All’ in Nine, Forehead Tittaes and 18 year old Marion in TV series Extrême Limite.

Mon Taratata à moi choosing David Bowie

On Friday evening a new episode of Mon Taratata à moi aired on France 2. That’s the version of the show where artists choose a performance by someone else from the Taratata archives for their personal Taratata show – while sitting in a photo booth. This time Marion Cotillard chose David Bowie because he’s a real genius and there’s really no need to say more about him.

Today, Saturday, Aung San Suu Kyi was released after more than seven years of house arrest. She’s Myanmar’s democracy leader, received the 1991 Peace Nobel Prize and has been Honour Citizen of Paris city since 2004. At Paris town hall in front of a portrait of Aung San Suu Kyi people gathered for a solidarity event. Among them Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe, Marion Cotillard and British singer Jane Birkin. The inscription on the portrait banner read “Aung San Suu Kyi, Free Honour Citizen of Paris City”. Watch news videos with some footage of Marion by TF1 and MI6. There are also some pictures online by Cyril Abbas.
