The Playlist picked up on the listing of ‘Second Coming‘ in last week’s Production Weekly – which means the movie is now officially in pre-production. Not sure when it will shoot but let’s hope we’ll hear something specific soon. Intriguingly, Ethan Hawke is now also part of the cast!

Marion on ‘Le Grand Journal’ today

Earlier today, Marion Cotillard was interviewed on Le Grand Journal. Exactly one year after her interview on the show during last year’s Cannes Festival and also exactly 3 months after her last appearance on the talk show. She looked absolutely adorable in her red dress. And I love her hair.

I don’t have time for a proper translation but here’s a – hopefully accurate – summary. She talked a bit about her character Marie in ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs‘ who’s generally full of rage apparently. She enjoyed filming a contemporary movie wearing jeans and swearing. Guillaume Canet is a great director and she enjoyed working together and had many beautiful moments with the whole cast who mostly are old friends of theirs. She evaded the question if Guillaume was being difficult at home during filming – à la Guido Contini in Nine – but said that the two things can be balanced.

She was equally evasive about her character in ‘Inception‘ but said that it is not “Cat Woman” – the character is very complex and enigmatic. She has many different sides to her. She shares with Christopher Nolan the love of seeing a movie without knowing anything about it in advance.

Coming to Cannes doesn’t feel like an obligation. There are things she’s obliged to do – like talk about ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs‘ – but they’re agreeable to do. And she didn’t sing Karaoke last night at the concert – contrary to what the people on the show thought. But apparently, Guillaume sang – during a time when Marion wasn’t there.

She confirms ‘Midnight in Paris‘ – she doesn’t share a scene with Carla Bruni – and ‘Contagion‘. She also grabs the opportunity to gush about Kate Winslet. However, she was very reluctant about ‘Cosmopolis‘ since she’s still in talks. (This makes sense as Variety reported she was “attached” to the movie – this means she hasn’t signed anything and having her name attached to the project will hopefully help get the project made.) Moreover, she hasn’t heard anything about ‘The Rivals‘ in a long time – its development has definitely been put on ice. Sadly, they didn’t ask her about ‘Second Coming‘.

‘Les Petits Mouchoirs’ Clip

When Guillaume Canet was on Le Grand Journal earlier today (yesterday) he brought along 2 minutes of his upcoming movie ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs‘. It features Marion as a very fierce Marie in an unfortunate situation. The naughty boys are telling her to calm down but she just shouts that she IS calm! Guillaume is currently presenting a 10-minute Promo Reel at the film market. Let’s hope it gets picked up for foreign distribution so it’ll get released e.g in the US – and let’s hope for a trailer soon!

In other news, Marion & Guillaume were spotted by Madame Figaro‘s Marion Galy-Ramounot at the club “Heaven’s Floor by Albane” Sunday evening and by Gala outside their hotel on Monday. Earlier tonight Marion Cotillard was expected to attend Chopard’s 150th anniversary event according to The Globe and Mail. edit: some preview pictures here.

And Adrien Brody is joining the cast of ‘Midnight in Paris‘ according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Updates on Marion’s Upcoming Movies

Steven Soderbergh’s all-star virus thriller ‘Contagion‘ – which starts filming in September – received a tentative theatrical release date: October 21, 2011. Not only that but it will also be in 3D. Source: Coming Soon

To promote ‘Cosmopolis‘ at the Cannes filmmarket a poster was put in Daily Variety. Let’s hope it will all come together for this project – I would really love to see Marion work with Colin Farrell and David Cronenberg.

Second Coming‘ – which also has Marion as an executive producer – was mentioned last Monday by Variety in an article about projects – among them ‘Second Coming‘ – having been awarded a French Tax Break.

A month ago Catalan newspaper El Punt reported that “a Hollywood film team with debut director Nenad Cicin-Sain and a cast of A-List actors – Mark Ruffalo, Marion Cotillard, Anjelica Huston and Thandie Newton – will come mid-May to shoot ‘Second Coming‘ in Barcelona and especially in Cadaqués. The works of Spanish artist Joan Mateu will be used in the film.” The article goes on to say how this makes the place more interesting and that Marion has a lead role in it. Apparently filming had to be postponed due to the Vulcanic erruption. Interestingly, they speculate that “the presence of Marion who is also executive producing, as well as the Weinstein brothers could make it possible that the film will be admitted to next year’s Cannes Film Festival”.

Many thanks Nadine and a huge thank you to Mel for her help with the translation!

I hope we will hear more about the status of ‘Second Coming‘ when Marion will be on Le Grand Journal this coming Tuesday.

Teaser Poster & Synopsis for ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs’

Thanks to Nadine for the heads up. In time for Cannes EuropaCorp released Teaser Posters of Guillaume Canet’s new movie ‘Les Petits Mouchoirs‘ starring among others Marion Cotillard. See a photo of it at Cannes here. This reminded me about the long overdue plot synopsis and description of Marion’s character:

Every year, Max, a successful restaurant owner, and Véro, his eco-friendly wife invite a merry group of friends to their beautiful beach house to celebrate Antoine’s birthday and kick-start the vacation. But, this year, before they all leave Paris, their buddy Ludo is hurt in a serious accident, which sets off a dramatic chain of reactions and emotional responses. The eagerly anticipated vacation leads each of the protagonists to raise the little veils that for years they have draped over what bothers and upsets them. Pretences become increasingly hard to keep up. Until the moment when the truth finally catches up with them all…

In an extended French synopsis Marion’s character Marie is described as a “liberated single”, who fiercely proclaims her independency and her thirst for new experiences. Guillaume Canet said in an interview with Le Figaro that Marion plays an ethnologist who spends the larger part of the year in Amazonia where she studies the Kayapo Indians. A way of running away, actually. It’s difficult for her to be involved in her own life. To take the plunge.

Marion attached to ‘Cosmopolis’
Posted by Mia on May 13, 2010 No Comments
Posted in: Movies, News & Rumours,

This past Tuesday Variety reported that both Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard are attached to star in David Cronenberg’s self-penned adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel ‘Cosmopolis‘. The company who’s handling international sales rights is presenting the project to buyers during the Cannes Film Festival. David Cronenberg himself first mentioned the project last summer. Here’s the IMDb listing.

The $20.5 million film is penned by Cronenberg and produced by Portuguese producer Paulo Branco’s Alfama Films and Cronenberg’s Toronto-based Antenna, in association with Kinology.

The thriller follows a multimillionaire on a 24-hour odyssey across Manhattan. Farrell will play the asset manager who loses all his wealth over the course of one day. Cotillard will play his wife.

Lensing will take place from March to May [2011] in Toronto and New York.

And here some further information about the movie from Alfama Films:

Undoubtedly one of the main figures of American literature, Don DeLillo signs with Cosmopolis a visual and frenetic piece of work, in a single unit of space and time – 24 hours in New York.

Eric, a 28 year old Golden Boy, turned his life into a violent and obsessive microcosm of today’s world, above which a looming shadow leads to the worship of “matter” above all things.

For David Cronenberg, visionary filmmaker of the collapse of the world, the adaptation of this novel, halfway between reality and the virtual dimension, where the hero hides in a maze of, somehow, senseless images, appears as a promise of enlightenment for each viewer.

On a sidenote, Marion Cotillard was already once attached to a project starring Colin Farrell while finances were being secured at the Cannes Film Market. In the end ‘Ondine‘ happened without her. Also Colin may not pronounce Marion’s surname correctly (as heard at an awards event earlier this year) but he attended the Pre-Golden Globe dinner in her honour back in January 2008.

‘Inception’ Poster & Trailer with Marion

What a day! Both the new poster and trailer for ‘Inception‘ feature Marion. Not only does the concept as well as the visual style of the movie want me to see the movie right away but also Marion looks gorgeous! I am waiting with adding screencaptures of the trailer until the official HD trailer gets released (reportedly on Monday).

Deadline Hollywood reports that last Monday a screening of ‘Inception‘ was held for cast and their reps:

And even the most cynical people who usually hate everything were knocked out. “It was beautiful.” Lots of gushing about the “incredible work” by Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard, and Ellen Page.

‘Inception’ Plot Synopsis

Sci-Fi Action. Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible–inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

Marion Cotillard has so far been suspiciously absent from all publicity material. But LA Times author Geoff Boucher said he didn’t mention one character because his/her plot involved a major twist (source: Nolan Fans). Interestingely enough, Marion Cotillard whose name gets top billing wasn’t mentioned in his article. Also director Christopher Nolan debuted some footage at WonderCon early April and said about Marion:

“She plays an extremely complicated individual. She gives a fascinating performance.”

The new trailer will reportedly be shown before ‘Iron Man 2‘ in cinemas later this week. According to rumours on IMDb it will feature Marion.
