According to The Daily Page there will be an open casting call for extras for Marion Cotillard’s upcoming movie ‘Public Enemies’: Saturday, February 16, at Monona Terrace in Madison

The film will be shooting in Chicago and around Wisconsin this spring. Locations in the state are set to include Manitowish Waters and Richland Center, with others sites scouted over the last month including Oshkosh, Milwaukee, Baraboo, and the Capitol in downtown Madison. Now the production is searching for people in the region to work as paid non-speaking extras for these shoots, with the open casting call from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Monona Terrace. “We are shooting in the Wisconsin area and need people with great faces for this 1930s period film,” begins an announcement from the extras casting agent. “We are currently looking for men no taller than 6’1″, women should be no taller than 5’8″, and no larger than a size 12. We are also looking for children of all ages.”

To see further details on how to prepare before going to the casting call be sure to read through the information on the afore-mentioned page carefully. Additionally, the article reveals that ‘Public Enemies’ will be shooting from mid-March through to June. Not sure for how long Marion is required on set for her scenes as Billie Frechette.

Since I hadn’t updated on this when it was hot news I hadn’t found the time to do so amidst all the frenzy surrounding Marion Cotillard’s win at the BAFTAs. But she was named Actress of the Year at the 28th Annual London Film Critics’ Circle Awards last Friday – beating fellow nominees Laura Linney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Angelina Jolie and Anamaria Marinca. She looked fabulous in a Chanel dress:

This is such happy news! Marion Cotillard won Best Actress at tonight’s BAFTA Ceremony in London! Congratulations!

Marion won over fellow nominees Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Keira Knightley and Ellen Page. This is what Keira Knightley had to say on the red carpet before the ceremony:

I don’t know how many awards we are going to win but I’m so excited the film has 14 nominations. I’m not going to say I’m confident about winning (best actress) because there are some really amazing inspiring performances. Marion Cotillard is my hero at the moment. She’s amazing in La Vie En Rose.

Read the rest of at DailyMail.

The ceremony should be airing right now on BBC One in the UK – and is being aired over in the US on BBC America, not sure about the times, though. It will also be available for viewing online. Not being able to see it right now I’m guessing it will only be made available online after the TV airing.

From the Press Release:

La Vie en Rose received the highest number of wins with 4 BAFTAs. Marion Cotillard received the BAFTA for Leading Actress for La Vie en Rose for her portrayal of Edith Piaf. The film also won awards for Music, Make Up & Hair and Costume Design, presented posthumously to designer Marit Allen.

2008 Oscars Portfolio

Thanks to Marion Cotillard’s Road to Oscar for the heads up. This year’s Oscars Portfolio in The New York Times Magazine features Marion Cotillard. The issue will come out this Sunday, February 10.

Their website features many goodies: Overview, article, Breakthroughs (Interviews), Shooting Stars – Behind the Scenes, Audio Slide Show.

Language may also be an obstacle for Marion Cotillard, who played the legendary French chanteuse Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose.” In what is a particularly striking breakthrough performance, Cotillard shifts in age and mood from Piaf’s early days as a hustling street urchin to her death at 47. Cotillard has starred in hit films in France and appeared opposite Russell Crowe in “A Good Year” in 2006, but “La Vie en Rose” is, much like Penélope Cruz’s performance in “Volver” in 2006, a breakthrough, because suddenly she was seen as a serious actress. Yet no French actress — including Catherine Deneuve or Isabelle Adjani — has ever cracked the accent barrier in America. Cotillard is determined to try: she has taken intense Berlitz classes to learn pitch-perfect English, and she has already been cast in a big-screen adaptation of the musical “Nine,” which will also star Javier Bardem. Cotillard’s ability to mesh utterly with the life of Edith Piaf is not unlike the sense of commitment and attention to detail that dominates Daniel Day-Lewis’s work.

I’ve updated the gallery with all the new pictures. If anyone is able to send in file versions of the videos for the Media Vault please consider doing so. I would be so happy :)

This just came via Variety:

Director Michael Mann has set Marion Cotillard to join Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in “Public Enemies.”

The Depression-era crime drama gets under way in Chicago on March 10 for Universal Pictures.

Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff and Jason Clarke are also joining the cast.

The Oscar-nominated “La Vie en rose” star Cotillard will play Billie Frechette, the lover of the country’s most notorious gangster, John Dillinger (Depp).

Tatum will play outlaw Pretty Boy Floyd, Ribisi will play Alvin Karpis, Dorff is near a deal to play Homer Van Meter, and Clarke will play John “Red” Hamilton. That quartet repped a Dillinger gang that knocked off banks all over the Midwest during the Depression.

Bale plays Melvin Purvis, who was tapped by FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover to lead a manhunt that established the FBI as the country’s first federal police force after the G-Men killed Dillinger outside the Biograph Theater in 1934.

The shooting script was written by Ronan Bennett, Ann Biderman and Mann. Mann will produce with Kevin Misher. Jane Rosenthal is exec producer.

In addition, Reuters, who says Marion is in negotiations to star in Public Enemies, describes her character Billie as “Dillinger’s torch singer girlfriend”.
