Marion Cotillard in Rust and Bone
“I have a crush on Harry Dean Stanton in Paris, Texas. He was my type of guy, especially when I was a kid. I was totally in love with him. I wanted to go anywhere with Harry Dean Stanton: Texas, Paris, whatever, wherever.”

In 2012, sex all but disappeared from the movies. Perhaps because it was an election year, perhaps because America has been absorbed by a longing for heroes, the films this year were largely devoid of physical passion. Even James Bond, notorious for his tantalizing, exotic affairs, was nearly chaste in Skyfall. The Bond girl in the latest chapter was his boss and maternal figure, M, who stands for England in all its historic glory. Similarly, the runaway hit of the holiday season was Lincoln, in which Daniel Day-Lewis brilliantly gives voice and humanity to the greatness of what government can do: pass a law that ends a war and frees the oppressed. And while the creation of the Amendment that abolished slavery in America represents a kind of sexy happy-ending history lesson, the couplings in the film are mostly legislative. Zero Dark Thirty is another, more contemporary, slice of American-history-in-action, and though the war still rages, it also ends with a victory—the death of Osama bin Laden. The movie follows a CIA analyst named Maya, portrayed with intensity and steel by Jessica Chastain, who believes she has found the arch-terrorist’s lair and will not rest until he is killed. Although Maya works with a team of men and some women, she seems to exist as an island. It’s entirely possible that her goals could be pursued even with human interaction, but that might compromise her hero status in the viewer’s eyes.
Marion Cotillard was on Conan last night to promote ‘Rust and Bone‘. She talked about her love of redheads, having been raised by her mother to talk to outcasts at school because they could be the most interesting person, loving American comedies and ‘losing’ it when meeting people such as Will Ferrell or John C. Reilly, W Magazine photoshoot, having been allowed to express themselves artistically on the walls as a child and the movie of course. I loved it – Marion really has an adorable sense of self-depricating humour.
She was wearing a sequin plaid chartreuse Erdem dress embellished with floral appliqués and appeeared to have cut her hair. I love that look on her – and I’m happy to stand corrected when we next see her – but in my opinion the hair isn’t flowing as naturally as it did when she had that length before and we all know how she likes to experiment with her hairdo so I think it’s only some kind of wig. What do you think?

The Man and Woman of the Year awards are presented annually to performers who have made a lasting and impressive contribution to the world of entertainment. Established in 1951, the Woman of the Year award has been given to many notable and talented entertainers, including Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, and, most recently, Claire Danes.
The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, formed in 1795 and known informally simply as The Pudding, is a theatrical student society at Harvard University, known for its burlesque crossdressing musicals and for its status as the oldest collegiate theatrical organization in the United States. They present original student-written and student-composed musicals with near-professional production values.
Luise, Jess and I have added some pictures of Marion Cotillard attending a number of recent award season events. She looked stunning! We will be on the lookout for more pictures and I’ll be posting screencaps too but we’re all really busy with real life.
Last Thursday, after not getting nominated for an Oscar, Marion Cotillard attended the 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica wearing a Zuhair Murad Fall 2012 Couture lace and floral embroidered knee length dress with a open back looking radiant, beautiful & youthful. She accessorized the dress with nude Jimmy Choo shoes, Chopard jewels and a nude clutch and wore her hair in a sleek side parted bun. She did not win Best Actress, Jessica Chastain received the honour. She was pictured with Sally Field and Amy Adams.
On Friday, she attended a pre Golden Globes party held by Dom Perignon and W Magazine at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles wearing a Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2013 printed pants ensemble with black pumps, dark make-up and a half up half down hair do.
On Saturday, she celebrated her recent BAFTA nomination at the BAFTA Los Angeles 2013 Awards Season Tea Party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles wearing a short-sleeved blue floral Erdem Pre-Fall 2013 dress together with a cross-body Christian Louboutin ‘Sweet Charity’ satin and lace bag and her hair in a high bun. She was pictured talking to ‘Rust and Bone‘ composer Alexandre Desplat and Daniel Day-Lewis was really happy to see her again.
Finally, on Sunday, for the big day at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards at the The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills she went back to wearing Dior Haute Couture. It was a strapless velvet coral gown with an asymmetrical hemline created by Raf Simons especially for the occasion. She wore it with a silver belt, not much jewellery apart from a matching arm bracelet & ring seth with red jewels by Chopard (as always), and hair extensions. She truly looked glamourous and natural at the same time. Again, she did not win an award, Jessica Chastain was named Best Actress in a Drama.
