Reaction to Golden Globe Nomination

Additionally, USA Today has some quotes from Marion Cotillard about her Golden Globe nomination and plans for the holidays – “My family. Home” – and about award season:

“I’m very happy. I’m very proud of this one. But above all, it’s the encounter with two amazing people and the crew we worked with to make this happen. I’m very happy for all of us. I want to celebrate the present time. I don’t want to think ahead. I want to enjoy what’s now and what’s here. I don’t get nervous at all. I’m just very happy about this movie’s journey so far.”

Cotillard: ‘Very happy about this movie’s journey’, USA Today

The Hollywood Reporter says Marion Cotillard was in Paris, staying at a friend’s house, when she heard that she received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a motion picture, drama, for Rust and Bone.

“I’m very happy for the movie, I’m very happy for French cinema. I’m very happy for French-language films,” says the actress, who mentions the nominations of Amour and The Intouchables for best foreign film as especially exciting. As for Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone, in which she plays a killer whale trainer who suffers a horrible accident, Cotillard says, “it’s really amazing to share a French movie with a U.S. audience. It’s a beautiful and very unconventional love story. It’s a movie that shows you can turn violence into power, and it’s a very beautiful and positive story.”

And here’s ‘Rust and Bone‘ director Jacques Audiard’s statement:

“We have been blessed with an impressive reception of the film in the US but this nomination comes as an unexpected honor. I am particularly happy for Marion. When you have shared a moment of pleasure with someone, it is always great to have the opportunity to extend it. This confirms the interest paid in recent years by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for French cinema. I am very happy to be part of this trend.”

More from Gotham Awards & Charlie Rose Show

No, I haven’t found the acceptance speech video. But I added loads of additional pictures. WWD reports:

Cotillard received an honorary award in recognition of her film career and was so eager to collect her award, her chair flew back when she stood. “Oh my god, thank you so much,” she whispered in her charming French elocution to the good Samaritan who lifted it back up.

I also added a transcript of Marion’s interview backstage after the tribute (some really good & new questions in there), courtesy of Examiner.com, and additionally they also report the following interesting tidbit:

Later, Marion was overjoyed discussing family life and her baby. “He’s 18 months old now!” The starlet seemed in high-spirits and as a bystander put it “had the best energy out of all the talent there.” The actress stayed until the very end, and even took photos with star-struck fans outside afterwards.

Marion Cotillard, passion on stage, La Vanguardia, November 9, 2012
This is actually only a Google translation. At some points it’s not making much sense. But it’s a very interesting read. She talks about the oratorio, performing it back in 2005 and how the last 2 times there were plans to reprise the role it didn’t work out (there are many people involved and it costs a lot of money). She also talked about money and art:

Do you know that in Spain the Government believes that the theater, music and film are not culture but entertainment?
It is very dangerous to make this consideration, it kills art and forces you to work with productivity in mind. Art is not profitable, but much more importantly, a way of life and expression that is a treasure.

And in France cut subsidies to culture …
There will always be artists who find ways to express themselves and to share with the audience. Sometimes crises renew art, I don’t see that lack of money from our government can kill our culture. I don’t think that an artist can’t speak without money. They always find other ways. Even in the worst financial crisis, art and culture never perish.
