Another brilliant interview was published in the UK today. This time in The Independent. While none of the topics mentioned are actually new the answers about her work in both French and American movies, her recent career developments as well as about dealing with the media do contain additional insight so be sure to read.
I just wanna do movies. I don’t have a plan. I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to work with some directors and some actors I wouldn’t have dared to think I would work with one day. And now I know that everything is possible. So, it’s very exciting. But I don’t have in my mind whether I do an American movie or a French movie. It’s just [that] the stories come and… if I recognised myself in the story, I wanna be part of it. That’s how it happens.
Talking of stories coming her way, Baz Bamigboye reports in The Daily Mail that Marion Cotillard is on on a wish list of actresses to play Fantine in the movie adaptation of the musical ‘Les Misérables‘ which in turn in based on Victor Hugo’s book. Tom Hooper – fresh off Oscar-winning The King’s Speech‘ – is in negotiations to sign as director. Once the crucial part of lead character Valjean’s been cast filming could start next year, apparently.
Yesterday’s Sunday Times featured a brand-new insightful interview with Marion Cotillard in their Style section, again to promote the upcoming theatrical release of ‘Little White Lies‘ in the UK. Thank you Lorna for sending in scans.
In just little over two weeks, on April 15, ‘Little White Lies‘ (Les petits mouchoirs) will open in the UK. A number of publications have published new interviews with Marion Cotillard – conducted in Paris last December – to promote the movie. By the way, how interesting that one of the publications is actually really called ‘Little White Lies’! I added scans and transcripts – enjoy!

Marion Cotillard is on the cover of the new Paris Match in France – together with French sailor Maud Fontenoy. The pictures were taken mid-November in La Rochelle on Maud’s boat. The interview gives us insight into their collaboration that properly took after Marion attended the Maud Fontanoy Gala on world ocean’s day back in June. Check back later this week for more about their collaboration and the actual scans.
Many thanks Miss Grain from Zhang Ziyi Infos for the scans of last week’s issue of Femina. It’s mostly an interview by François Cluzet with Guillaume Canet. But there’s a gorgeous new photo of the cast as well as some lovely on set pictures. Read the interview on Femina.fr.
Marion Cotillard is featured on the cover of this week’s Styles – sold together with L’Express Magazine. While the cover is an old picture (BlackBook June/July 2009) the inside picture is new and looks like yet another Chopard Photoshoot. The interview is brand-new and interesting (thanks Nadine for the transcript). She talks about how Guillaume Canet is a very talented director. He always finds the right words to voice what he wants from his actors. Also about the personal issues of Marie, her character in Les petits mouchoirs as well as about her search for simplicity in her personal life. She doesn’t want to play a character in her everyday life anymore and is surprised when she looks at pictures of her from 10 years ago when she was wearing much more make-up etc. She also mentions the project by director David Cronenberg [Cosmopolis]: nothing’s signed but she keeps dreaming of starring in the movie.

There is currently an overload of pictures etc from Marion’s appearances at the Toronto Film Festival. Stay tuned for more updates! In the meantime, Marion Cotillard was featured in the Evening Standard Magazine on the weekend with the stunning photoshoot realized for Chopard’s 150th anniversary in which she’s wearing pieces from their Animal World collection, developed in association with the WWF.
Anything we can do in favour of the defence of life and the environment is always precious.
For the most part the article is using quotes from the recent feature in the ‘Interview‘ magazine but it still makes for an interesting read. Thank you Natalie for the scans!
Note: In the final print Marion Cotillard wasn’t featured on the cover of ES Magazine, though there was a preview of a version with Marion.
The original source for the recent news about Marion’s upcoming performances in Jeanne au bûcher posted their article online today. There’s not much more information in it, but they list famous actresses who’ve previously played this part since it’s first staging back in May 1939 in Orléans.
However, they forgot to mention some interesting inside information. Back in 1992 Marion’s parents Niseema Theillaud and Jean-Claude Cotillard took on the parts of Jeanne and her brother Dominique when this oratorio was staged in a cathedral in Orléans, while a 17 year old Marion watched in the audience.
When director Jean-Marc Cochereau approached Niseema Theillaud 12 years later for the same part she declined and suggested her daughter Marion. Marion immediately accepted since she’d wanted to work with him for a long time. After accepting the part she had it stipulated in any filming contracts that she’d get a week off for rehearsals and performing in Jeanne au bûcher. She enjoyed working with the orchestra and doing theatre for the first time since her final piece at the Conservatoire d’Orléans in 1994.
Finally, on May 5 and 6, 2005 she played Jeanne opposite Christophe Maltot’s Dominique along with 265 singers and musicians of the Orchestre symphonique d’Orléans. Director Jean-Marc Cochereau remembers that her performance was strikingly sincere, that she played Jeanne d’Arc with what is her talent: the ability to convey immense emotion. The director of the Orchestre symphonique d’Orléans Catherine Mounier recalls that the 3 000 visitors in the sports centre still remember the performance. As do the singers and musicians who took part in those 2 concerts. By accepting the role, Marion Cotillard made them a very beautiful gift, she added.
Earlier this week I added HQ scans of the August Interview issue – including the full interview. I also added scans sent in by Kelly and Mariana. Many thanks for these!

Marion Cotillard is on the cover of French Elle this week. The pictures definitely have a retro as well as summer feeling to it, and of course Marion looks divine! It’s just a pity that they included ‘only’ 3 pictures.
I also added a few more text interviews and articles to the press section earlier today – as always translations into English would be warmly welcomed:

Marion Cotillard is on the cover of the August issue of Interview magazine. The photoshoot is very dreamy, sensual and just breathtaking! The interview was conducted over the phone by Nicole Kidman and is definitely one of the most informative Marion interviews in the English language. She talks about her work with Greenpeace in Congo, her love for the environment, searching for answers, dreams and her work with Yodelice. Read it on the magazine’s website
