Independent Spirit Awards Nomination

The nominations for the Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced today and Marion landed a nomination in the Best Actress category for her role in The Immigrant! An unexpected but exciting event since this means she is in the minds of critics for both The Immigrant and Two Days, One Night.

Three of the best actress noms went to films that received a single nomination — Julianne Moore for “Still Alice,” Jenny Slate for “Obvious Child” and Tilda Swinton for “Only Lovers Left Alive.” Also selected were Marion Cotillard for “The Immigrant” and Rinko Kikuchi for “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter.”

Oscar Campaign: ‘Two Days One Night’ to represent Belgium

Oscar Campaign: ‘Two Days One Night’ to represent Belgium

Variety just reported that ‘Two Days One Night’ has been chosen to represent Belgium in the foreign-language Oscar campaign.

The jury, presided by Joëlle Levie, chose the film for its “cinematographic quality and its powerful topical and universal subject matter.” The committee, made up of six industryites, also pointed out the film’s strong international potential of the film due to the presence of Cotillard, who won an Oscar for her perf in “La Vie en Rose.”  “Two Days, One Night” received upbeat reviews at Cannes and was sold by Wild Bunch in more than 60 territories.

IFC Films, which will release “Two Days, One Night” on Dec. 24 in the U.S., has already started positioning the film for the Academy Awards, presenting it at key festivals, including Telluride and Toronto, as well as the upcoming New York and Los Angeles AFI fests. It will soon compete at the European Film Awards.

“Two Days, One Night” was produced by Belgium’s Les films du Fleuve, in co-production with Eyeworks, with the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 22 at the Los Angeles Dolby Theatre. The nominations will be unveiled on Jan. 15.

This is great news for the film and Marion, hopefully we will see her one more time at the Awards as a strong contender!

I added screencaptures and a clip of Marion Cotillard’s cameo in ‘Anchorman 2‘. She and Jim Carrey are participating in the international news teams battle with their “incredibly polite Canadian news team”. Marion Cotillard’s newsanchor is from French speaking Quebec News – “the real voice of Canada”.

Marion Cotillard and everybody else involved in this scene just got nominated for an MTV Award:

Latest events update

Latest events update

As you have probably noticed we have been gradually adding photos of Marion’s latest public appearances. For the past two months, Marion has been traveling around to promote her two new films, Guillaume Canet’s ‘Blood Ties’ and James Gray’s ‘The Immigrant’. ‘Blood Ties’ is now out in France and Belgium. Promotion has included screenings at The Toronto Film Festival on September 9 and 10, attended by both Marion and Guillaume. Following that, Guillaume traveled along France during October and Marion attended a couple of the screenings in Bordeaux and Paris.

More recently, Marion has begun promotion for ‘The Immigrant’, which opens in France and Belgium on the 27 of November. She was in Lille for the first screening of what I figure will be a few ending with the premiere in Paris. She was accompanied by James Gray. Photos of all these events have been added.

Finally, and as we had reported before, Marion was honoured by Elle in Los Angeles on October 21. The event, Elle magazine’s “Women in Hollywood”, is an annual dinner that recognizes women for their impact on the film industry. Marion was honoured alongside Melissa McCarthy, Nancy Meyers, Reese Witherspoon, Naomie Harris, Eva Marie Saint, Shailene Woodley and Penelope Cruz.

During the show, Forest Whitaker, who worked with Marion in Mary, and also awarded her the Academy Award back in 2008, introduced Marion at the event.

When I first met her, I was in rapture. I am always astonished by the completeness in which she immerses herself in her roles.

During her speech, Marion spoke of her passion for her work and of why she loves to do what she does.

As far back as I can remember, I began questioning the world around me. Then I realized that by exploring different human beings and their stories, I felt the connection I was longing for. I know these women have also found answers in what they do, and share my passion for discovering the human soul.
