Thanks Kit for directing me to an article at WWD.com which talks about Marion arriving for a fitting ahead of the upcoming Costume Institute ball. Read the article in the press archive. There are two things we learn:

1) There’s a new 7-minute film in support of the Lady Dior handbag that will debut on the Internet next month

2) Up next for Marion after Inception “a French film by her boyfriend – and “Lancaster” co-star – Guillaume Canet”

about aviator look in Le dernier vol:
I love that look: the helmet, the goggles, the jacket, everything. It’s very masculine. You feel confident

FLIGHT PATTERNS: Marion Cotillard is trading her aviator look for belle of the ball. The Oscar-winning actress, who just returned from Morocco where she wrapped filming “The Last Voyage of Lancaster,” in which she plays an aviator, was on her way to Christian Dior Friday morning to meet couturier John Galliano for a fitting ahead of Monday night’s Costume Institute ball at the Met. “I’m about to leave and get that dress,” she said after a screening of a seven-minute film in support of the Lady Dior handbag that will debut on the Internet next month. Not that Cotillard was eager to dump her flight gear. “I love that look: the helmet, the goggles, the jacket, everything. It’s very masculine. You feel confident,” she said. Next up for the actress is a role in Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” and a French film by her boyfriend – and “Lancaster” co-star – Guillaume Canet.

Marion Cotillard has been revealed as guest of John Galliano (Dior) for the upcoming prestigious Costume Institute Gala in New York, which takes place next Monday, May 4.

The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion, the spring 2009 exhibition organized by The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, will explore the reciprocal relationship between high fashion and evolving ideals of beauty, focusing on iconic fashion models in the latter half of the 20th century and their roles in projecting, and sometimes inspiring, the fashion of their respective eras. The exhibition will be on view at the Metropolitan from May 6 through August 9, 2009.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, the Museum’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit will take place on Monday, May 4, 2009. Marc Jacobs will serve as Honorary Chair of the Gala. Co-Chairs are Kate Moss; Justin Timberlake; and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. This fundraising event is The Costume Institute’s main source of annual funding for exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements.

Designers in the exhibition will include Giorgio Armani, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, André Courrèges, Christian Dior, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Rudi Gernreich, Halston, Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis, Charles James, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Helmut Lang, Ralph Lauren, Prada, Paco Rabanne, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio di Sant’Angelo, and Gianni Versace.

Traditionally, everyone’s wearing gorgeous and spectacular dresses to the Costume Institute Gala. I can’t wait to see Marion’s choice!

I’ve added scans of 2 new Lady Dior Print Ads – courtesy of “vogue28″ and “Flashbang” – one of them is brand new! Also in the gallery a few official behind the scenes pictures (source 12). I think these are lovely pictures while we await the second batch of Lady Dior Ads.

Speaking of which… Celebrity Hair stylist Ted Gibson blogged about a photo shoot he worked on with Marion Cotillard. Might this be for the new Lady Dior Ads? Who knows…

I was in Morocco for 3 days working with Marion on a fashion shoot that was beyond my imagination. I have never experienced any place like Ouarzazat before It was desert, palm trees, lush vegetation and beautiful weather!!!!!

Marion came to the shoot in a beautiful long sweater, jeans and hair in a bun. Such a movie star!!

We created a very soft, sexy flowing hairstyle with tons of bounce. I used Hairsheet Styling and Build It Blow-Drying Spray to give volume and control because we were shooting outside. I’ll follow up with a picture when the story is published.

Oscar-winning performance saves film

As publicity and anticipation for the new Johnny Depp movie “Public Enemies” heightens, so will the interest in the film’s leading lady Marion Cotillard. She isn’t exactly a household name, and perhaps people seeing “Public Enemies” was filmed in Wisconsin and co-stars Christian Bale will wonder what exactly she has done to earn such an honor.

There is no better answer for that question though than seeing her performance first hand in “La Vie En Rose.”

Her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf is one of those performances that comes around usually once a year that just makes viewers gasp at how immersed an actor or actress has become in their work. She was awarded the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, and I think that after seeing the film there is no question the Academy actually made the right choice that year.

The film, on the other hand, is not as great as Cotillard’s performance. It starts off as the typical biopic and really takes quite some time to get itself out of that rut. The film runs around two hours and 20 minutes, which isn’t a bad thing until considering the first 40 minutes are devoted to things that don’t make Piaf any more special than anyone else that has ever been portrayed in a biopic.

She goes through the typical horrendous childhood that most biopics seem to showcase. She deals with poverty and makes mistakes, much like anyone else. And it isn’t until the filmmakers themselves seem to find what makes her so special and unique that the film takes off and becomes a thing of beauty.

As much as the film’s opening would have you believe, Piaf was not the typical singer. She has unfortunate luck, suffering atrocities that she has no control over. Her love life is suspect and ultimately rocky because of her lack of self-confidence. She does not have charisma and often suffers from stage fright. And she isn’t exactly the most healthy or likeable performer to ever grace the silver screen.

It is when the film focuses on these attributes and showcases how Piaf got past them – or in some cases didn’t get past them – that everything becomes engaging and worth watching.

Amazing performances can only do so much for movies, and eventually the content of the film has to take over. Cotillard’s performance is worthy of all the praise and recognition it got, and I wouldn’t be surprised, come July when “Public Enemies” is released, if she actually steals the show. But the film needed to be either about two hours long or just mainly focused on Piaf’s breakout onto the music scene and her career. Had it done this, Cotillard’s performance would have been the icing on the cake and not the egg that holds it together. But alas, it begins by being cliché and disinteresting and never is able to get over that to achieve pure greatness.

Marion in talks to star in ‘Inception’

Great news, I hope this is really happening! Variety reports that Warner Bros. is in talks with Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page to join the cast of “Inception,” which Christopher Nolan wrote and will direct as his next film. Leonardo DiCaprio has already been set to star. Filming is set to begin this summer for a 2010 release.

What is it about? Apparently, “the subject matter has been kept under tight wraps, with the studio describing the film as a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” But The Hollywood Reporter has a bit more information:

However, as the casting process progresses, details are beginning to leak out. DiCaprio’s character is mentioned as a CEO-type, while Cotillard would play his wife. Page is a young college grad student and DiCaprio’s sidekick.”
